Salt Lake City Itinerary

Day 1 – Explore Salt Lake City

Morning: Explore Temple Square

We woke up in a downtown apartment with a stunning mountain views. Arrived late last night, and in the darkness, I didn’t realize we were completely surrounded by stunning mountains. I really loved this rental that we found, since it’s central location, walkable to main attractions, and great rooftop pool and jacuzzi (even during winter). Some other options in the same building: option 2 and option 3.

We started the day by enjoying the rooftop jacuzzi or pool as we took in the views of the mountains (some perks of this hotel 🙂 After a refreshing start, we headed over to The Rose Establishment, a cozy breakfast spot just a short walk away, known for its amazing coffee and delicious morning healthy bowls.

Next, begin your sightseeing at Temple Square, the heart of Salt Lake City and a must-visit. The architecture, history, and peaceful gardens make it an incredible place to explore. Visit Salt Lake Temple, an iconic landmark that took 40 years to complete and is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The Tabernacle is home to one of the largest pipe organs in the world—catch a free daily organ concert if you can! Fun fact: the Tabernacle’s unique dome-shaped roof allows sound to carry across the entire hall without the need for microphones. Check the schedule here: Daily Organ Recitals. I highly recommend not missing the free show, as it’s one of a kind.

Next, visit the SLC Visitors Center to learn more about the history of the Mormon faith. Don’t miss the Assembly Hall, where free guided tours are available. Everyone working there is super friendly, and I highly recommend chatting with them—they share some fascinating insights!

Utah State Capitol

Just a 15-minute uphill walk from Temple Square, the Utah State Capitol Building awaits. As the seat of the state government, this stunning landmark offers free guided tours where you can dive into its rich history and impressive architecture!

Lunch & Shopping

By now, you’ve likely worked up an appetite! Head to Eva’s Bakery, a charming French-style café, for fresh croissants and a midday coffee. Afterward, take a stroll to City Creek Center, one of the nicest malls in Utah, featuring a beautiful stream running through it and a retractable glass roof. There are lots of interesting stores to visit.

If you’re ready for lunch, grab a bite at From Scratch, a fantastic eatery serving farm-to-table dishes.

Afternoon: Natural History Museum

Natural History Museum

Spend your afternoon at the Natural History Museum of Utah, one of the best museums I’ve ever visited (and trust me, I’ve been to a lot!). It’s not just for kids—the dinosaur exhibits, Native American artifacts, and stunning geological displays make it a must-see.

Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City has free entrance, though there’s not much to see. However, we really enjoyed the movie about space in the dome theater – it was an amazing experience!

Evening: Sunset & Dinner

If you still have energy left, Salt Lake City has some great bars and restaurants, but keep in mind that they do close early. For dinner, head to The Copper Onion, known for its fresh, locally sourced dishes. Afterward, check out Lake Effect, a stylish cocktail bar with an extensive drink menu and live music. If you’re into speakeasies, The Rest is a hidden gem beneath a restaurant, offering a cozy and intimate vibe. For craft beer lovers, Beerhive Pub is a must-visit with its unique ice bar and great local brews.
Day 2 The Cliff Spa and Day at the Mountains

Day 2 The Cliff Spa and Day at the Mountains

Morning: Relax at The Cliff Spa

The Cliff Spa

We started our day 2 in Salt Lake City trip with an amazing coffee and avocado toasts at La Barba.

After a packed first day, it was time to slow down and soak in some mountain luxury. We headed to The Cliff Spa at Snowbird Resort—one of the best-kept secrets in Utah. Even though it is up in the mountains, the drive from our hotel was only about 35 minutes.

This place is unreal! The highlight? A rooftop open-air pool and hot tub with insane panoramic views of the mountains. Inside, there’s a cozy lounge where you can kick back and take in the scenery, plus a eucalyptus steam room and a dry sauna to completely unwind. The best part? You don’t have to be a hotel guest—just grab an affordable day pass and enjoy it all. At the time of our visit in 2025, it was $55 per person. Check current pricing here: check Whether you book a massage or just sip tea while soaking in the views, this is hands down one of the most relaxing experiences in Salt Lake City!

I highly recomend to not skip this experience – it was one of our favorite things we did in Salt Lake City! But make sure to MAKE a RESERVATION ahead of time, as the place books out

Lunch: Scenic Dining with a View

For lunch, grab a bite at one of the restaurants at the Snowbird Resort, where you can enjoy delicious food while overlooking the stunning mountains. Here is the list of available options: https://www.snowbird.com/dining-shopping/dining/dining-overview

Afternoon: Aerial Tram and Mountains

Top things to do in Salt lake city
Aerial Tram at Snowbird

Spend the afternoon taking in the stunning mountain scenery. The Snowbird Aerial Tram, available in both summer and winter, is a must-do for breathtaking panoramic views.

In winter, you can ski or snowboard, something that SLC is famous for. If that’s your plan, I recommend doing it in the morning and then heading to The Cliff Spa to relax afterward.

In the summer, enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or even a thrilling alpine slide. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, take a scenic drive through Little Cottonwood Canyon or simply find a peaceful spot to soak in the views. Either way, you’ll be surrounded by some of Utah’s most incredible landscapes! Check the list of activitites here: https://www.snowbird.com/activities-events/winter-activities

Evening: Après-Spa Drinks & Cozy Mountain Dining

After a rejuvenating day, wind down at **The Aerie **. Located on the 10th floor of The Cliff Lodge with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows. If you’re in the mood for a more sophisticated evening, check out The Yurt at Solitude, a unique dining experience where you’ll enjoy an intimate chef-prepared meal inside a cozy mountainside yurt—an unforgettable way to end your day in the mountains.

Alternative: Take a short 40-minute drive to Park City, home to world-famous ski resorts and a charming Main Street. Even if you’re visiting in summer, you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or just wandering through the boutiques and galleries.

Day 3

Morning: Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island

We started the day with a breakfast at Publik Coffee Roasters, known for its top-notch coffee and delicious pastries.

After breakfast, we set off for an unforgettable morning at the Great Salt Lake. This massive, shimmering lake is one of the most unique natural wonders in Utah. You can float effortlessly in its salty waters (salt keeps you afloat) or just take in the surreal, expansive views.

The best spot to access the lake is Antelope Island State Park, where you can also spot bison roaming freely. The park is about 1 hour away from the city. If you’re like hiking – the great trail is to Frary Peak. Frary Peak is the tallest point on the island and provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. The trail is not easy, so you’ll need to come prepared.
Afternoon: Bonneville Salt Flats

Afternoon – Bonneville Salt Flats

Bonneville Salt Flats

For a truly unique experience, take a drive out to the Bonneville Salt Flats. This vast, otherworldly landscape stretches for miles and is famous for land-speed records and breathtaking photography. It’s like stepping onto another planet! If you’re into photography, bring your camera—the reflections after rain are absolutely stunning.

It is really fun to drive around the flats! There is no speed limit on the flats so you can see how fast your car will go if there is space to do so.

Bonneville Salt Flats are an 1.5 h away from the city and is one of the best free things to do in Salt Lak City.

Evening: Farewell Drinks & Dinner

End your trip on a high note by checking out Salt Lake City’s craft beer scene. Utah has some quirky liquor laws, and beers here have a lower alcohol content than usual, but that doesn’t stop the local breweries from making some fantastic brews. Head to Fisher Brewing Company, a laid-back spot with a great selection of craft beers and food trucks. For a trendy vibe, Kiitos Brewing offers unique, flavorful beers you won’t find anywhere else. If cocktails are more your thing, grab a drink at Bar X, a speakeasy-style bar known for its craft cocktails, or Undercurrent, a stylish lounge with a great atmosphere.

Where to Stay in Salt Lake City

If you’re visiting Salt Lake City, I think that the downtown area is a great place to stay. It’s walkable to many of the main attractions, like the Utah State Capitol and Temple Square, so you can easily explore on foot. Plus, there’s no shortage of restaurants and cafes, offering a variety of delicious food options. Whether you’re in the mood for casual dining or a more upscale experience, you’ll find plenty of choices right around the corner. Staying downtown gives you the perfect mix of convenience and excitement during your trip!

This is the list of downtown rentals where I stayed, and really liked the building and location. I also enjoyed the year-round roof top pool and spa.

The Narrows is one of the most popular hikes in Zion, and one of the most unique ones! Most of the hike, you walk in the water in the beautiful canyon.. and it gets really deep at some points! During hot summer it’s so refreshing!

How to do the Narrows hike🥾:
- it’s easy - moderate hike, and you can choose how far you go! Most people walk about 1-2 hours one way! But honestly I didn’t want to stop! It’s beautiful and so fun, so it took me around 5-6 hours total for the hike!

- Rent the gear - boots🥾,neoprene socks 🧦and hiking poles! There are a couple of places near the park entrance where you can rent, ex @zionoutfitter . . The water is pretty cold, and since you walk for 2-6 hours, with your feet in the water, it will make your life more comfortable! Also, it’s pretty rocky, so special boots and hiking poles are highly recommended! I saw lots of people falling!

White Sands in New Mexico is ultimate bucket list location! Beautiful and unique spot!

White Sands is not really a sand, but a gypsum field (the largest in the world). These dune was formed when an ancient sea evaporated!

-The gypsum is different to the touch, very soft and slightly cool, even when it’s hot in the dessert!

- It was very warm in the dessert, but the “sand” was so cold at the sunset, that I almost froze my feet.. I ran to the car after, and tried to warm my toes with the car heater!

- Unlike sand, gypsum dissolves in the water! But because its’s rarely raining in the dessert, the dunes are still there!

Few things you can do in the park:
✅drive around and enjoy the scenic view
✅climb the dunes
✅sand sledding - you can rent the sleds in the park for $10
✅Interdunes boardwalk - if you don’t want to take your shoes off, it’s a perfect 0.4 mile mile walk!
✅watch sunset - believe me, it’s absolutely out of this world!

💵Entrance fee is $25 or National park pass!
